What's everyone's thoughts on the current state of the NBA license held by panini? They released "Panini Replay" recently, which feels like an inventory dump. Similar to 2009/10 spgu and spse, which dumped all of those sticker autos that UD had in its inventory, right before they lost the license of course. How would the market react to UD regaining the license? Good or bad? Thoughts

I'd like to see a few different companies share the license. What's the worst that could happen? One of them takes a significant loss?

But to answer your question, I think it would be fun to see the new Curry guys and old Jordan guys competing to show who the best player is.
It would be Jordan by about tenfold but it would be real good and exciting for the hobby.

UD and hopefully Topps getting back officially would revitalize the hobby. Competition is a good thing. It's the same reason why we keep getting the same old John Madden football year in and year out. Sure, you occasionally get a good to great product. But overall, the offering is uninspired. Panini has the ability to make a great set from time to time, but having UD and Topps looking over the shoulder might bring the best out of all of the companies.

I'm really hoping that UD gets it, because the NBA is likely going to stick with the one company model. If UD gets it that means we also get Fleer and Skybox in addition to UD, three brands in one. The possibilities for what they could do are vast, the question is are they going to cheap out, or go all in.

I don't care who makes them but I think if it's one company not called Panini there will be people shocked when they do the same thing that Panini did

If UD gets the players licenses it will SUCK. Hoping they both can get the license. UD back would be great! No card company is perfect but to have more than one would help imo.

If Panini loses the license, what effect will it have on Panini singles? Specifically high end products

my opinion is at first I feel like it will not effect values except for rookies from the Panini only years could see a bump. Possibly a long time down the road other stuff could see a bump but I cannot see it increasing anything Panini by a lot. Again just my opinion.

I am in favor of the shared license and actually hope that the upper management has a different mindset now that David Stern is no longer the commissioner.
UD getting the sole license would likely, at least, mean that there will be no new autograph cards of Kobe Bryant/Kevin Durant/John Wall/Blake Griffin/Kyrie Irving/Anthony Davis/whoever exclusives under Panini wing in the foreseeable future though.

Yea, but right now this hobby is like playing NBA Jam. It's fun and all, but it would be a whole lot better if Jordan was in it.
Let us all root for the shared license.

I rather have new Jordans and Lebrons than Kobe Bryant/Kevin Durant/John Wall/Blake Griffin/Kyrie Irving/Anthony Davis.

There are tons of the latter.

Jordan and Lebron collectors are probably x50 with the exception of Kobe.

UD was better at design, value and pretty much everything.

Split the licenses up, Competition with bring all of those qualities back

Agreed with everything except for 'The' Bron part. I'd rather have Calabro's Yinka Dare collection or even the27guy's Impotence collection than anyone's Lebron collection.
UD's got the Fleer name and they were the best with design. As good as they were with cards I bet Fleer's making some sick cardboard boxes these days.

Ey man, you trying to trash my boy Yinka? Let me tell you something, Yinka Dare invented water, sound waves and the sun among many other things and he's also the greatest boxer and race car driver in the world. He dated Tyra Banks before dumping her and Chris Webber picked up his sloppy seconds.

Sorry, sorry dudeman. That was a low blow comparing The Bron to Yinka Dare. It goes without saying. Anyone in their right mind would choose Yinka between the two.
