Rookie right-hander Stephen Strasburg has a significant tear on the ulnar collateral ligament that probably will require reconstructive Tommy John elbow surgery, the Washington Nationals announced Friday.

Well, that must a a KICK IN THE NUTS for those people paying up to 500K for those superfractors and stuff.

Just WOW, oh wow.

I feel really bad for the guy, it's always a shame when a up and coming superstar get's injured early in his career. But, I have NO sympathy for those people who spent there whole paycheck and invested in this guy, they should have known better to not buy into all the hype.

You mean to tell me it's a bad idea to sink hundreds of thousands of dollars into something that is an unproven investment? Duly noted. Wink

ive said bust since day one because of health reasons... so

DAMN i think my crystal ball is finally clear because i called it!

even if "healthy" next year, this slows his progress down and sets him back because each year you are usually given X amount of innings, and it goes up each year that you hit the inning goal.

He won't be able to pitch til probably next September at the earliest. I guarantee he won't be back til sometime in 2012...as a fan of him, the Nats and the game I feel sick. The fact that its now going to be that much harder for me to sell my work's Nats tickets really makes me ill.

I did tell my cousin that I feared drafting him and that he would blow his arm out, though I expected shoulder, in his first year. Luckily he's young so he has some time to bounce back but I doubt he'll be the dominating guy he started out as and it may take a good 2-4 years for him to get full command back. Then again there are guys like Brandon Webb (I think he had the surgery) and Mark Mulder (see Webb) that never recovered

*edit* I could be thinking Labrum tear with my two examples

Just another reason why Washington fans are cursed. Haynesworth has some sort of weird muscle disease, Arenas is nuts, and now this.

Labrum

and Razor guy bought the Super for under $25,000

and TJ is easy to come back from if you put the work in which he will so people that invested before they kept jumping price wise, were smart as he comes back does well in rehab in A ball and they are still sitting pretty.

His cards will drop but still be great hits that pay for a couple boxes

i hardly feel bad for him. he is the lucky one who doesn't have to work and will continue to get mega checks

tommy john surgery is a well preformed procedure and he could have the same stuff he has shown before the injury... but if he wants to have a career he will have to tone it down a little bit like justin verlander did.

the days of nolan ryan are past us

Inflammation of the shoulder...

Now TJ surgery...

All in a matter of one months time... Stras will have to completely rework his mechanics if he is too survive in the league and have any sort of career. All the stories of the inverted "W" or the "M" throwing mechanics prior to what happened pointed this out.

With that said he may never come close to what he was, if ya pull a an auto of his just get what ya can, unless greed dictates you sitting on the card for 18 months or so hoping he picks up where he left off.

Greed is Good- Gordon Gecko
Greed Kills- Dude is dead don't know his name

It's unfortunate for the people that invested on him early but I think he's going to be great. Many players has come back from this surgery and they've seemed to get better. I don't agree with Schilling about him being the best pitcher that we could ever see but he's got awesome stuff. I can't wait until he gets back in a couple of years. I have zero monies invested in him.
