There is currently a listing for a Jordan 9.5 precious metal gems #18/100 (which is currently going for over 16K)
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5337015507&customid=&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D380758385384

Now another listing has just popped up
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5337015507&customid=&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F1997-98-Precious-Metal-Gems-PMG-RED-Michael-Jordan-18-100-BGS-9-5-w-10-1997-/190953594490?pt=US_Basketball&hash=item2c75b89e7a

Where it has some evidence that the card may have been trimmed.
Although the card achieved a BGS grade of 9.5 where they are meant to check more thoroughly, if the other listing is true, it certaintly looks trimmed.

I am curious to see how this develops. Chipping on the edges is extremely common on these cards. It''s amazing that a fine slither off some of the edges could take it rom maybe an 8 grade up to gem mint. And then since the prestige of the card, add another 15-25K to the potential price

Evoltuion of #18

Also this was sold (in what looked like gem mint condition) and before it was graded in early september

do you really care about the condition? For myself, I would not pay more to get 9.5 as 8.5 or 9 are good enough.

The most interesting thing here is whether the card was trimmed or not.
Some pictures seem to suggest it was, although the card seemed to get through the becket grading service which, maybe, shoul've noticed the card was trimmed or cut.

I don't have the resources to get the card, but people who do and are trying, might be interested to know...

I certianly would rather a bgs 8 card (for cheaper) than a bgs 8 card trimmed to look gem mint (and likely require to pay more!)

Your picture on the second row is misleading. The front of PMG was from 32/100, used to be Rare Air's card. That auction stole the image of that card.

i was just using the one from the auction here, where it was purportedly selling #18

ie from seller: cardstrom

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5337015507&customid=&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F97-98-METAL-UNIVERSE-PRECIOUS-METAL-GEMS-23-MICHAEL-JORDAN-RED-PMG-RARE-L-K-/331005636255?pt=US_Basketball&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&si=7AEkN%2BPtDUIUe8j7mOJF6%2Fc4Ro8%3D&orig_cvip=true&hash=item4d11792e9f

I think you're probably right though. The details of the auction are quite dubious. The scan of the back of the card has a very low image quality and also the bidding leaves a lot to be desired (2 bidders one with 0 and one with 27 feedback jacking up the price)

So it ended up at $17,400

A bidder with 24 feedback won the auction. That is not particularly encouraging as to being a bonafide sale. You'd expect people making such large purchases to have a bit more feedback and history on bidding on card...

At least the alleged trimming seems to have effected the sale price
Perhaps a less dubious one would've fetched more?

Not sure.
