2 less HR
4 less RBI then Ortiz but a gold glover so he actually plays something better then DH. 322 avg well ortiz as a pitiful 267 avg. Everyone would take V bud instead of Big pappy.

I wouldn't. Smile. The thing most people "underestimate" about Ortiz is his clutch. He is so clutch (Games 4 & 5 in the ALCS 2 years ago) and he has the most Walk-Off HR's since 2003. He might not play on defense, but he is one hell of a player. Ortiz = MVP. (Shoulda won it last year) Sad. F'n A-Rod.

Big Papi has been much better than Vernon over the last 3 years. You also have to factor in how DAMN CLUTCH he is.
Just for you...

A DH cannot be the best player in baseball. But heck, he aint even the best hitter. You may have an argument for most clutch, but other than that, no.

maybe if they didn't put an insane shift on him more of his hits would go through...Pujols is a better hitter but in a game judged by wins and losses Ortiz walkoff hits prove to be more valuable. 13 since 03. Plus he was a .300 hitter the last two years.

Walkoffs are all about situational plays. It's who's given the opporitunity. Ortiz is a DH. Meaning he's only valuable in the AL.

And he still hasn't made any errors in interleague play. The Red Sox are 11-1 in interleague...its funny how unbalanced the leagues are. Thats why everyone thought the Cards were unstoppable in the 04 postseason and the Sox swept them...The top teams in the AL have no easy outs.

Yes, it's odd. No errors in interleague play, against (as you put it) inferior opponents. He's not the best, bottom line. He's up there, and is most likely the most clutch hitter today. But that's as far as i'll go.

He is the best clutch hitter in baseball...no more no less. But he also he leading the AL in RBI and second in homeruns and he is having an off year. he is not the best player in baseball though as he doesn't field and doesn't have speed.

a shift is part of a game no? He needs to get over it and go opo. He is batting .267 and as longhorn said its all situational. Cards haven't been in many walk of situations, pujols just puts them up early...

Yes, he might be the most clutch and one of the most feared hitters in baseball, but I wouldn't consider any DH as the best player in baseball.

Not even best hitter Mauer or Wells. Mauer has AVG. Wells has AVG and HRs Ortiz may hit clutch hits but usually he hits nothing.

usually hits nothing? His .273 average 26 Home Runs and 75 RBI's disagree with you.

.273 is not that great for an MVP wouldnt you agree. Its what normal players hit.26 HRs is great. I still would say he is not a great hitter avg wise. He is slow.

Last two years he starrted slow and ended above .300. Anyways I was trying to figure out what you meant by "Ortiz may hit clutch hits but usually hits nothing" meant...You were the one who brought up MVP not me.

I mean he is not a hitter for AVG. He is a ground ball pitchers dream Very Happy. I just think he is one of the most overrated players in the game.

Since he's clutch, he's the best player in baseball? You want to put that arguement up, you can say Travis Hafner is one of the best in the game, because he's so clutch with the bases loaded, 5 grand slams, and we're only at the all-star break. I'm sorry, Ortiz is good, but no where near best player in baseball, and I mean no where near.

Ortiz haters-
All Star Break Numbers-
.278 31 Home Runs and 87 RBI's. Leads the MLB in Home Runs and RBI's Also fifth in AL in runs. And yes a DH will win American League MVP this year. Either Ortiz or Thome

it is to bad the Twins waived this guy...worse yet many teams passed him up on the waiver wire...side note...Ortiz was not only waived by the Twins but he was also a Rule V pick by the Twins when they snagged him away from the Mariners several years ago...hmmm I wonder if David was waived now how long it would take for the next team to grab him? He is fun to watch play...
